| Week 39: You have 9 days until Friday, March 17, 2006. |
| My Start Page Hi Pearl, |
In week 39, we explore:
|
| This Pregnant Body Pearl, it looks like you are going the distance to 40 weeks! Continue to make getting plenty of rest a top priority. It is very common to have anon-stress test at this point to determine how you and your baby are doing. A non-stress test is a simple, painless procedure in which your doctor monitors your baby's heartbeat - first while the baby is resting, and then while he's moving - to evaluate his condition. Just as your heart beats faster when you're active, your baby's heart rate should go up while he's moving or kicking. Click here to read more about non-stress test. If you have always been on top of life around your home then get ready to enter some uncharted territory when you bring home your baby! The first law of survival for new parents is delegate, delegate, delegate! Have a friend or family member take over the weekly grocery shopping. Give them a pre-printed shopping list and mark which items you need. Ask family and friends to help stock your freezer with ready-made meals that will require minimal preparation. Let eager family members help with the baby's feeding time or bath time while you relax. Stress and exhaustion are far more likely to occur during the first month after you deliver, so pay attention to your stress level and physical stamina, and try to keep things around your home as simple as you can. | Your Baby Your baby will continue to put on an additional half pound this week and probably weighs in at about 7 pounds. He or she is around 21.5 inches in length and most of the lanugo has fallen off in preparation for birth. The umbilical cord that has carried nutrients from the placenta to your baby is now 20 inches long and is half an inch thick. |

| A Quote Worth Repeating "Having a family is like having a bowling alley installed in your brain!" - Martin Mull |
| Tips From Other Moms When I was pregnant and was out and about on the metro in our city, some people would give up their seat for me. At times, when they vacated a seat and motioned for me to take it, I would look around to see who it was for and only then realize it was for me. Many people are very sympathetic and generous towards pregnant women. Now is a good time to let them care. Take the seat. If you are growing tired of the uncomfortable pressure caused by the broad elastic on maternity pants, try wearing overalls during the late days of your pregnancy. They help relieve some of the weight since they are anchored at the shoulders. Painters' overalls are usually inexpensive and available everywhere. |
