This Pregnant Body

Pearl
, you may begin to experience several not-so-pleasant symptoms of pregnancy, such as shortness of breath, leg cramps, swelling of your hands and feet (called edema), and back pain. You can relieve some of the discomfort by paying attention to your posture, and by exercising regularly.

As your baby grows, there is less room left for your lungs to expand - this is usually the cause of your shortness of breath. Exercising moderately can keep your body functioning at peak performance and strengthen some of the muscles needed to carry your load properly. Exercising before bed can also help with leg cramps. Try taking a 30 minute walk after dinner to help keep some of these pesky pregnancy symptoms at bay.

Your Baby

Your baby is 18.9 inches long from head to toe and weighs almost 4 pounds. He or she will gain weight more quickly now and will probably double in weight between now and his or her birth. Just like a newborn, your baby sleeps a lot of the time. He or she even experiences rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, the period of sleep when we dream! The decision to breastfeed or bottle-feed is a major point of debate among birth professionals and mothers. Breast milk contains a variety of nutrients that, along with your baby's stem cells, help maintain his or her healthy immune system.

Formula contains an easily-digestible and, in some cases, hypo-allergenic combination of vitamins and nutrients for your baby.

Will Your Baby Come Early?

More than half of all babies come early. Don't waste the valuable opportunity presented by your newborn's stem cells and cord blood banking. This decision could one day impact you, your baby and your family. It only takes 60 seconds to enroll and you won't be charged until your baby is born.

Your To-Do List

Pearl
, many pregnant women experience gorgeous, glowing skin while they're pregnant. Others are not so lucky. Pregnancy hormones can wreak havoc on even the best skin: oily skin can dry out; and dry skin can turn oily and prone to breakouts, the likes of which you haven't seen since high school! And don't forget that some skin care products can be harmful to your baby, so check ingredient lists carefully.

Your Journal Entry

Since we discussed food cravings earlier, what foods do you have a taste for? In your journal entry this week, make a note of any foods that seem to be on your mind and in what combinations. Bon Appetit!

A Quote Worth Repeating

"Life is a canvas, throw all the paint on it you want."

- Danny Kaye

Tips From Other Moms

Make yourself feel as comfortable and attractive as you can. Demand pampering. Spend a day at a spa, or simply treat yourself to a manicure and a pedicure. (Just because you don't see your feet as often doesn't mean they can't look beautiful!) You have important work to do now; the most important of which is to take care of yourself and do what makes you feel beautiful, today and everyday.
