| This Pregnant Body Pearl, you probably are getting a pretty good idea of which birth option you will choose and other details about your labor and delivery. Many expectant moms find it helpful to write down a specific birth plan and give a copy to their doctor and the hospital. Creating a birth plan reduces the number of questions asked of you during labor, a time when you may not wish to be bothered by decision making. Click here to read more about birth options. The pain in your chest and abdomen is caused by your uterus pressing against your stomach, causing its acidic contents to be pushed back up into your esophagus. For relief, you can safely use antacids; however, as with any medication, check with your doctor first. Click here to read more about heartburn. Click here to read more about antacids. |
| Your Baby Your baby now weighs approximately 3.5 pounds, measures about 18 inches from head to toe, and is getting used to the world of light and dark by opening and closing its eyes. Its facial muscles continue to strengthen, and your baby can make different expressions. Click here for an ultrasound image of a baby at 31 weeks. |

| Tips From Other Moms When you pack for your hospital stay and trip home, make sure to include a nursing gown, robe, or pajamas that open in the front; panties, warm socks, and a nursing bra; your toiletries; and cream for sore nipples. The hospital may provide items such as sanitary napkins and nipple cream, so check with them when you go on your hospital tour. If family and friends come to visit you in the hospital, you may want to have a little makeup or lipstick and a quick hair fix (clip or scrunchie) with you for the photos they'll want to take. For your baby's hospital stay, pack a couple of onesies and a blanket. For the trip home, pack a comfortable and loose-fitting outfit for you, and a particularly photo-worthy outfit and hat for your baby. Don't forget the camera and lots of film! Most importantly, you will need to have your infant car seat in place and be familiar with how it operates. Car safety should begin with your baby's very first ride home.
