Week 23: You have 121 days until Friday, March 17, 2006.

Hi Pearl,

It's time to actively enjoy this period of your life. Take your partner away for a romantic picnic in the country, take off for the weekend with just a single carry-on, or go to a museum. Do all the things you soon won't be able to do easily until your child is grown and you're up all night worrying about college expenses. You and your partner will be glad you took this time for yourselves. Tell me how the two of you have fun, together! Your input can help other women come up with fun things to do with their partners.

This Pregnant Body

Pearl
, now that you have reached your 23rd week, your body is beginning to prepare for the impending delivery of your baby, at around 40 weeks. At your OB appointments your doctor will measure your fundal height. The fundus is the round upper portion of the uterus, and the height of the fundus refers to the distance between the fundus and your pelvic bone. This is a routine and accurate way of measuring the growth of your baby. Don't worry if you are not right on target for size. Each pregnancy is unique and the variation of fundus size is natural and quite normal.

Your Baby

Your baby now weighs a little under one pound, and is about 8 inches from crown to rump. Your baby is continuing to develop its facial features and you are probably feeling a lot of movement as your baby continues to explore its body and world in the comfort of his or her own personal "living womb." Your baby now has eyes that open and close, ears that can hear, a thumb well worth sucking, and lots and lots of hiccups.

Pearl
, accidents and emergencies are things we don't like to think about, but they do happen. Now that you have an additional little person to think about, being prepared is more important than ever.

In this week's entry describe your interpretation of what's going on inside of you and what it feels like. Have you felt hiccups? How did you know what they were? What did you think? Did it make you laugh? Write about the events that are so small you may forget them if you don't record them now.

A Quote Worth Repeating

"Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt."

- Herbert Hoover

Tips From Other Moms

With morning sickness far behind you, it's time to talk about eating! Every day, you will need to eat four to five servings of carbohydrates, such as bread, cereal, pasta, and rice; at least four servings of protein-rich foods such as meats, cheeses, eggs, and beans; and two or three servings of leafy green vegetables or yellow fruits and vegetables. You should also eat at least one great source of vitamin C, such as strawberries, cantaloupe, oranges, or spinach. Your doctor will be able to tell you any additional nutrients you may need to keep you and your baby strong and growing. A healthy diet is the single most important thing you can do for yourself and your baby to insure a healthy pregnancy.

This Week's E-Poll

Are you experiencing any swelling in your hands and feet?

Until next week...
